The Russian government has legalized parallel imports: the import of goods without the permission of the copyright holder, the press service of the Cabinet reported.
"The purpose of this mechanism is to satisfy the demand for goods containing the results of intellectual activity. Until now, they could not be sold on the territory of our country without the permission of the copyright holder," Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin explained at a meeting of the commission on improving the stability of the Russian economy under sanctions.
He recalled that a recently adopted law allowed the Cabinet to draw up lists of products "in respect of which the international principle of exhaustion of trademark rights is actually established when it is sold by the owner in any part of the world."
According to Mishustin, this measure, among other things, will make it possible to guarantee the supply of goods to Russia despite the "unfriendly actions" of foreign politicians.
It is emphasized that in the face of external restrictions, this decision will help to provide the domestic market with demanded goods and stabilize prices.
The list of products will be approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade . As previously indicated in the ministry, the list will be formed on the basis of proposals from interested authorities. It is emphasized that parallel import does not mean the legalization of counterfeit goods, it is about the supply of original goods through alternative channels.
Previously, Russia provided for liability for the importation of products with a trademark applied to them without the permission of the copyright holder. The violator had to destroy the entire party and pay compensation.
Discussions about the abolition of responsibility for parallel imports began to sound after the start of a special military operation to demilitarize Ukraine and the introduction of extensive economic sanctions by Western countries.
